Vini and Matipa Mutsemi Honored with 2026 American Dream Award

For Vini and Matipa Mutsemi, the American dream has taken shape through art, entrepreneurship, and a connection to their Zimbabwean heritage. The St. Petersburg couple have been named recipients of Florida’s Fourteenth Congressional District American Dream Award for 2026, recognizing immigrants whose accomplishments and service have made remarkable contributions to their communities.

The recognition, presented through U.S. Representative Kathy Castor’s American Dream Awards program, celebrates the people whose journeys have enriched Tampa Bay. Vini and Matipa were among this year’s honorees at the awards and town hall gathering.

Their contribution to St. Petersburg’s cultural landscape is visible at EnnYe, where contemporary African fashion shares space with Zimbabwean Shona stone sculpture. Founded in 2016 by Matipa and her sister, Mercy Nyamangwanda, the brand is named for their mother, Enny. Its clothing, accessories, and home accents draw on African prints, bringing color and cultural identity into everyday life.

At the heart of the business is an appreciation for the artists behind the work. EnnYe’s Shona gallery represents emerging and internationally recognized sculptors, introducing visitors to pieces carved from stones including serpentine, springstone, and opalstone. These sculptures offer an encounter with Zimbabwe’s artistic traditions while demonstrating the individual imagination of each maker.

Vini, the gallery’s exhibition director and Matipa’s husband and business partner, helps build those connections. As previously reported by The Artisan, his travels to Zimbabwe have supported relationships with sculptors and the search for emerging talent.

Their recognition celebrates both the business they have built and the wider cultural conversation their work brings to St. Petersburg. •
