Open for 3 years now, The Werk Gallery & Object Lab has become one of the city’s most distinctive spaces for contemporary art, artist-made objects, and a cultural exchange. Located at 2210 First Avenue South, the gallery blends curated exhibitions with an eclectic retail concept known as the Object Lab, creating an experience that is equal parts gallery, curiosity shop, and community gathering place.

Beyond traditional galleries, The Werk embraces a broad spectrum of artistic voices, showcasing both emerging and established artists through rotating exhibitions that change monthly, curated by Nathan Beard.
There is a dynamic mix of painting, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, photography, and installation work, reflecting the diversity and creative energy that have made St. Petersburg one of Florida’s premier arts destinations. Gallery organizers describe their mission as supporting the local art community and providing opportunities for artists to connect with collectors and the public.

The gallery gained additional visibility in 2025 with exhibitions such as Ten Measure Tune by artist Nathan Beard. A feature by Spectrum Bay News 9 offered a rare behind-the-scenes look at the installation process, highlighting the careful planning, curatorial vision, and labor required to transform a gallery space into a cohesive artistic experience. The exhibition filled the gallery with approximately 180 works and demonstrated The Werk’s commitment to ambitious, artist-centered presentations.
Another notable exhibition, Summoning Saraswati, brought together painting, ceramics, and stained glass inspired by Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, learning, music, and the arts. The exhibition reflected The Werk’s willingness to explore themes that bridge contemporary practice with cultural and historical traditions, inviting visitors to engage with ideas that extend beyond aesthetics alone.

Beyond its exhibitions, The Werk’s Object Lab distinguishes it from many galleries. Described as a museum gift shop reimagined, the space offers artist-made prints, apparel, jewelry, accessories, vintage finds, antiques, ephemera, and unique collectibles. The result is an environment where visitors can discover everything from affordable artworks to one-of-a-kind treasures while supporting local creators.

As St. Petersburg’s arts scene continues to expand, The Werk remains a reflection of the city’s creative spirit, welcoming, unconventional, and deeply connected to the local arts community. Through its rotating exhibitions, participation in art walks and cultural events, and commitment to showcasing regional talent, the gallery has established itself as a destination for collectors, artists, and curious visitors alike. For those seeking an authentic glimpse into the contemporary cultural landscape of St. Petersburg, The Werk offers an experience that is both intimate and inspiring.
